VIOLA

Sara is from Anglesey, North Wales where she was taught the violin by Almut Bone and Margaret Scourse before taking up the viola at the age of 15. She studied with Penny Stirling at Junior RNCM and went on to study with Louise Lansdown at the RNCM for her Bachelor’s Degree. Sara completed her postgraduate studies with Isabel Charisius at the Hochschule Musik in Lucerne and with Gabor Takacs-Nagy in Geneva.

She is a founder member of the Benyounes Quartet, who celebrate their 12th anniversary this year. As a quartet, they were Richard Carne Junior Fellows in Trinity Laban Conservatoire (2011-2013) and prizewinners at the 1st International Sandor Vegh String Quartet Competition in Budapest in 2012. They were also recipients of the Julius Isserlis Scholarship, awarded by the Royal Philharmonic Society. They released their debut album ‘Innovators’ in March this year.

Sara is a member of Ensemble Cymru and alongside her passion for chamber music, she regularly plays with several symphony orchestras and enjoys being involved in education and outreach projects. She lives in South London with her husband and their two sons.
